Titans of Trial Win $53 Million in Landmark Case

Two brothers were headed to their annual family fishing trip when the negligence of a semi-truck driver shattered their lives forever. As the brothers drove up the 14 Freeway, a big rig crossed over the yellow line into their lane and crashed into them head-on. Their vehicle’s entire driver’s side was obliterated, including the driver’s left arm that had been resting on the open window; the brother in the passenger’s seat broke his back and thoracic spine at three levels. The brothers survived the near-death experience, but were left with permanent injuries and PTSD from the accident.

Fortunately, the brothers were represented by some of the greatest trial attorneys around: Brian Panish and Matthew Stumpf of Panish Shea & Boyle LLP and R. Rex ParrisBruce Schechter, and Khail A. Parris of PARRIS Law Firm. As usual, the Defense created several obstacles for the Plaintiffs, arguing that the brothers’ injuries were less serious than described. To show just how serious their injuries were, these titans of trial brought together their medical experts and DK Global to depict the catastrophic injuries and lifelong trauma the brothers will continue to experience due to the negligence of the truck driver.

DK Global’s team of artists created a series of animations depicting the invasive surgical procedures for both brothers. One animation depicted the driver’s sheared and fragmented left arm, as it was carefully debrided before hardware was placed to amend the injuries. Another animation demonstrated the kyphoplasty procedure performed on the other brother to relieve the pain along his thoracic spine – a procedure where a balloon is inserted into the vertebral space and filled with cement. Once in the heat of trial, the team of attorneys and their experts were fully equipped to walk the jury through the brothers’ devastating injuries and the excruciating surgeries performed.

The jury set a precedent to keep trucking companies accountable for their wrongdoings and negligence, returning a verdict of $53 million in favor of the brothers.

PARRIS was founded in 1985 and has recovered more than $1.4 billion in verdicts and settlements. Their attorneys have notable experience handling civil cases including personal injury matters, employment law, environmental law, and class action lawsuits. The firm prides itself on being a pillar within the Antelope Valley community providing numerous philanthropic programs and events.

Since 2005, Panish Shea & Boyle LLP has secured more than $10 billion in verdicts and settlements and has assisted in shaping laws nationwide to combat wrongdoings. Their team has remarkable experience navigating their clients through personal injury matters, business litigation, and more. Panish Shea & Boyle have cemented themselves within the surrounding communities proudly supporting local schools, programs, and organizations including the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, Los Angeles Trial Lawyers’ Charities, and more.

"DK Global made about four animations... They also did a Kyphoplasty [animation], it was absolutely amazing. The jurors were stunned by it, and we spoke to them afterward and they said it was one of the most engaging aspects of the trial."

Our thoughts on COVID-19
In a time of crisis, being human-first isn't a luxury, but a requirement. Wheather B2B or B2C at the core, all brands need to reflect inward.
