It was a sunny summer morning along a California freeway. A driver of a passenger vehicle switched lanes before checking if it was safe to do so. As a result, he merged directly into a motorcycle officer's path, causing the policeman to strike his rear-end and eject forward onto the hot, rough asphalt. Thankfully, the officer was wearing full-body protection, but tragically, he still suffered life-altering injuries. With the driver clearly liable, Panish Shea & Boyle LLP’s Adam Shea and Ryan Casey focused on damages. Utilizing a damages presentation that illustrated the severity of the police officer’s injuries, they attained a seven-figure settlement during mediation.
Having lost consciousness at the scene, first responders airlifted the officer to Loma Linda University Medical Center. Doctors identified multiple orthopedic fractures to his nose, six ribs, both wrists, and more. Above all, he suffered a traumatic brain injury that would change the course of his life. He was taken into the operating room, where surgeons fastened medical hardware to his wrists to repair the broken joints. Devastatingly, when he awoke from his surgery, the treating physician stated he would no longer be able to work as a full-time police officer again.
As the officer recovered, he enlisted the help of Adam Shea and Ryan Casey, who retained a team of medical experts, including an orthopedic specialist and neurologist, to help bring light to the traumas he endured. The two attorneys also brought on DK Global to enhance his medical imagery into 3D models, using expert testimony, to help visualize the gravity of their client’s damages. Project Manager Marty Vega coordinated a dynamic collaboration between DK Global’s 3D artists, the attorneys, and their experts to create a comprehensive and engaging damages presentation.
The presentation began with a 3D model of the officer’s likeness in his police uniform to foster empathy among the viewers. Then, starting at the top of his skull, each injury was recreated and highlighted, including his traumatic brain injury, septal fracture, and broken arms. Next, as his fractured wrists come into view, surgical hardware drilled into his bones to correct their positions. Finally, an overview of the officer’s injuries was listed, revealing the magnitude of his overwhelming damages.
Almost two months before their scheduled trial date, Adam and Ryan attended mediation and presented the DK Global animation, attaining the officer a high seven-figure settlement.
