City of Los Angeles Pays $9.5 Million Settlement

No Visible Crossings on Highway Results in Tragic Death of Young Woman

Attorneys Court Purdy and Bill Paoli utilized our services in their monumental case, Larsen vs. The City of Los Angeles, in which a teenage girl was killed in a hit and run accident while crossing an unsafe beachside street.

While we specialize in animations and 3D illustrations, our goal is to enable all facets of technology and media to thrive in the courtroom. One way we do this is by providing a Day in the Life Documentary service for cases that may need something a little different than a reconstructive animation or illustration.

Documentary Outlines City's Liability in Vehicle vs. Pedestrian Accident

In 2015, the beach city of Playa Del Rey was shaken by the death of 16-year-old Naomi Larsen, who was hit by a taxi after leaving a coastal bonfire. The injuries she sustained were terminal and led to her untimely death a few weeks later. Her family hired Attorneys Paoli and Purdy to seek justice for their daughter’s lost life. As the victim’s parents said, this was a “foreseeable tragedy” and the mini-documentary commissioned by Paoli & Purdy, LLP was created to highlight this fact. Utilizing surveillance enhancement, on-scene photography, custom graphics, aerial drone views, and our teams’ extensive experience, DK Global was able to piece together a poignant presentation.

The goal was to outline the liability of the Defendant as the city negligently ignored the need for a crosswalk. Footage of other beachgoers was also included, illustrating that this could have easily happened to anyone amongst the crowd of pedestrians crossing the unsafe street. Attorneys Purdy and Paoli used this presentation seamlessly within their litigation to counter the City of L.A.’s stance that they were not liable for Larsen’s death. With DK Global’s graphics in hand, they successfully represented their client, obtaining a $9.5 million legal settlement.

This case not only settled with a significant cost to the city but also created a heightened sense of responsibility for the residents of Playa Del Rey. The City of Los Angeles immediately began its Vision Zero policy, which implemented many new traffic regulations and lane reductions to eliminate all traffic deaths by 2025. This case is one of many high-profile cases Paoli & Purdy, LLP has handled. The firm, recognized as one of the nation’s preeminent law firms, represents Plaintiffs in personal injury matters, offering their vast experience and exclusive resources to ensure that each client receives the individualized attention they deserve.
