One, Two, Three—are you counting? Every 13 seconds someone sustains a traumatic brain injury (TBI) in the United States. TBIs are most commonly caused by falls and motor vehicle collisions when a bump, jolt, or penetrating injury impacts the head. According to the Brain Injury Association of America, at least 5.3 million Americans live with TBI-related disabilities; this equates to one out of every 60 people. When someone suffers from a TBI, they are not the only ones that are affected. Individuals that have sustained TBIs frequently suffer from neurological impairments that require specialized care from physicians and often family members and close friends.  Outside of personal care, survivors can require transportation to frequent medical appointments for therapy, tests, and surgery; which often places a heavy burden on family members and friends. While some people quickly recover from TBIs, others do not and they are unable to maintain their profession, resulting in financial hardship for them and their loved ones. Attorneys must consider all of these factors when effectively arguing brain injury cases and visuals can significantly strengthen a presentation.
